Austin is the state capital of Texas and is a city with a very different style that almost seems out of place for the state. There is an eclectic and bohemian feel in this city due to its large artist population. This city has a thriving technology industry and is home to several Fortune 500 companies. Austin is also home to a large number of government employees who run and maintain the state’s public infrastructure. The main headquarters for Dell is located in nearby Round Rock and has served as an important tech job contributor to the area. Austin is a festive city with a love for music, film, and food.

There are few cities in the United States that compare when it comes to creative living with a love for culture. Downtown Austin is booming with apartment towers and a neighborhood atmosphere full of exciting nightlife. The city’s slogan is “The Live Music Capital of the World” due to the fact that they have more music venues per capita than any other city in America. They also hold an annual festival for 4 days called “South by Southwest” (SXSW) and this major event involves around 20,000 musicians performing over its course. Austin also holds an annual indie film festival called “Austin Film Festival” which features movies from all over the world.

Because of Austin’s eclectic style it has become home to a large food enthusiast (foodie) following. Restaurants in this creative city have been competing for years to offer unique takes on every day menu items and occasionally adding exotic items as well. There is also a large number of comedy venues, museums, and performing arts venues to be found in and around the area.

Austin is a rapidly growing economy which many experts believe will be competing directly with larger Texas cities such as Dallas and Houston over the next few decades. It is a great place to consider for a career in liberal arts, technology, or just to enjoy a festive lifestyle. It is one of the safest major cities in the US and is easily one of the most livable.
