Katy Texas is a city located northwest of Houston along interstate 10 also known as Katy Freeway near Texas State highway 99. The city borders the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land area energy corridor and is located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties. The city has a somewhat rural ambiance while still having the feel of an outer edge major city suburb. The environment is laid back and very family friendly with several major residential developments including gorgeous apartment communities. Old Katy rd or U.S. Route 90 passes through the center of Katy and offers a scenic business thoroughfare all the way across the city. The city can have a very small town feel depending on the part of town you are in while other parts can feel very modern and well developed. This is why Katy Texas has used the slogan “Small Town Charm with Big City Convenience” to describe itself.
The Katy area is central to the headquarters and corporate offices of several fortune 500 companies which reside in unincorporated parts of Harris and Waller counties. The nearby energy corridor offers a great place to work nearby for residents of the Katy area. The local school district is Katy ISD which has over 50 campuses combined for all grade levels.
Shopping, dining, outdoor gear and more can be found in multiple locations throughout Katy but most notably at the famous Katy Mills Mall which is just south of the Katy freeway. This mall has hundreds of shops and restaurants, a movie theater and an attached bass pro shop for hunting, camping, boating and fishing needs. While large stretches of Katy can feel very rural, it merely takes a trip to the Katy Mills mall area to remind a resident of just where they are in the world.
